At Castle School's Pre-Prep, we prioritise child-led learning, experiential learning, and holistic development, drawing on several pedagogical approaches such as Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and Steiner/Waldorf. Our classrooms are designed to be warm, welcoming, and engaging, with a focus on natural materials and open-ended resources. This is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which emphasises the role of the environment in children's learning.

Our approach to teaching and learning is guided by our teachers who act as facilitators rather than strictly adhering to lesson plans.

This approach encourages children to ask questions, make connections, and investigate the world around them, as central tenets of child-led learning.
Incorporating the Welsh national curriculum, we provide a balanced education that develops children's knowledge and skills across various subject areas, while exposing them to different cultures through our incorporation of Spanish into the curriculum.
We believe in tracking each child's progress using curriculum progression steps, providing regular feedback and support to help them achieve their full potential. Our teaching philosophy is centred on developing children's emotional, social, and cognitive skills, building a foundation for lifelong learning.
The progression steps are based on a series of statements that describe what children are expected to know and be able to do at different stages of their education. Teachers use these statements to assess children's progress and identify areas for development, providing feedback and support to help each child reach their full potential.
At Castle School's Pre-Prep, we draw on a range of pedagogical approaches to provide a well-rounded education that meets the individual needs of each child. We believe in fostering a love of learning, providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment that sets children up for success.
